We are seeking a motivated and talented individual to join our Navitas Engineering team as a Senior Design Engineer or Design Engineer for the Energy/DNO markets (Electrical). 

Navitas Engineering capability and specialism covers the complete asset life-cycle, including design, installation, testing and commissioning phases. We have the experience and capability to provide solutions in the UK and Overseas.

The Senior Design Engineer works as an integral part of the design and engineering team to deliver design solutions to the highest quality, ensuring work is carried out within time constraints and budgets.

The role requires expertise in electrical engineering within the Distribution Network Operator (DNO) and energy sectors, encompassing grid connections, substations, power distribution, and renewable energy integration. The Senior Design Engineer will contribute technical expertise and experience to the team while mentoring and training junior engineers.

A key aspect of the role is the mitigation and reduction of risks through sound engineering design practices and compliance with sector standards and regulations.

 

You'll be working on…. (what your role and responsibility is)

Project Leadership

  • Lead projects from feasibility through to construction and commissioning phases.
  • Oversee the production of electrical designs to enable safe and efficient implementation.
  • Deliver design outputs to time and budget.
  • Effectively manage relationships with clients, suppliers, peers and all members of the wider team.

Technical Design and Compliance

  • Ensure co-ordination of design outputs from the design team including the design, checking and approval of drawings and documentation in accordance with the relevant standards.
  • Develop and manage technical studies and investigations.
  • Ensure compliance with industry and utility standards (e.g., ENA Engineering Recommendations, IEC standards) and legislation.
  • Develop electrical designs for HV/LV networks, substations, protection systems, and renewable energy integration.

Tools and Technology

  • Proficient use of industry standard electrical design tools.
  • Experience with DigSILENT PowerFactory for undertaking power system modeling and various power system analysis.
  • Experience in coding in Python (preferable), or Matlab.
  • Experience with CAD software is not required, but desirable.

Quality Assurance and Risk Management

  • Lead the development of risk assessments and technical assurance processes.
  • Ensure compliance with internal and external design assurance processes and audits (specifically NERS ).

Team Management and Collaboration

  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to design engineers.
  • Manage design outputs, including checking and approval of documentation.
  • Coordinate multi-disciplinary design efforts across power systems, civil, and structural disciplines.

Client and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work closely with all stakeholders including Clients, DNO organisations, developers, and contractors to deliver projects that meet client expectations.
  • Attend design reviews, technical workshops, and site visits to ensure alignment with client requirements.

General Responsibilities

  • Support commercial aspects of projects, including budget management and procurement activities.
  • Develop detailed project plans to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Assessment of other design engineer's competency within the electrical design categories of NERS.
  • Provide excellent service to clients, ensuring responsiveness and professionalism.

About you…. (what you are skilled at)

  • Proven experience in the design of HV substations up to 132 kV and LV networks.
  • Proven experience with the design and connection of renewable energy systems to DNO infrastructure, up to 33 kV.
  • Strong knowledge of DNO / utility procedures, requirements, standards, and connection agreements.

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer status through the IET or actively working towards it.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
  • Right to work in the UK.
